DC Food Project is aiming to reduce food waste in D.C. schools while improving access to healthy food for students throughout the weekend. Our organization will fill gaps between schools' free breakfast and free and reduced lunch programs and make it more accessible for D.C. students to receive healthy food during the day and when the school week ends.
"There are hungry kids in every community and schools are the best places to access those children. Federal free breakfast and lunch programs can help during the school day, but what happens outside of the school day and school week can have an impact on what happens in the classroom. "
