DC Food Project’s Emergency Weekend Bag Program provides families with bagged groceries on a bi-weekly basis, helping 600+ pre-identified families in critical need in eight of our partner schools. Our goal is to help children who are among the most vulnerable groups affected by inadequate access to food. Since March, we have been able to deliver over 700,000 meals - more than 100,000 pounds of food, as the demand keeps growing.

Our team has joined forces with Soupergirl to supplement the bags of fresh produce and grains we are providing. As the winter months grow colder, our families receiving our Emergency Bags will now also receive nutritious homemade soups for their family. Working together, we were able to develop a special soup recipe just for these families. The Soupergirl DC Food Project Red Bean Sweet Potato soup is cooked especially with these families in mind. It is extraordinarily healthy, while also being delicious. It's also very helpful for those families that are in transitional housing and do not have regular access to kitchens. We're able to provide a ready-to-eat hot meal.
