DC Food Project Serves One Million Meals

To our DC Food Project Friends and Family,

Over the past year, our team has been able to support thousands of families throughout school communities in DC, working side-by-side with incredible volunteers, deepening our relationships with the most devoted teachers, principals and janitorial staff, thanking you all for your ongoing support along the way.  We have seen how being present for families facing food insecurity, wondering how they will feed their children, can help lift them, give them hope, and allow them to exhale, even for a moment.  We have also seen that returning to “normal” simply is not an option.

In the coming weeks, we will be handing out our 1 MILLION-th meal.

Help us keep going.

Food insecurity rates in our city have exponentially increased, specifically among children and seniors.  Our work MUST continue as we anticipate this being a long road to recovery.

As we look to continue to provide food through the end of the school year - and beyond - we need to raise more funds to ensure we can cover the growing demand.  We are humbled and beyond thankful that Craig Newmark and Craig Newmark Philanthropies, in collaboration with DC Central Kitchen, will MATCH donations of up to $30,000 to help us tackle the immediate needs of our community here in DC.

We’re halfway to our goal!  Did you know: $30,000 will help us get 250,000 more meals -- $60,000 will provide over 500,000 meals to families in need.

Though we know we are so close to brighter days, we remain committed to be a volunteer-led organization, working with our school communities, quickly getting food to where it is needed most.

In Community,

Alysa, Katie, Krista & Lucie
